Choose the Right Care

People in Ealing are being encouraged to choose the right care for their needs this winter to help ease pressure on NHS services.

  • Colds and flu can normally be treated at home with a well stocked medicine cabinet.
  • Your local pharmacist can provide professional, confidential advice and treatment without an appointment, for a range of problems including coughs, colds, skin conditions, aches and pains, stomach complaints or emergency contraception.
  • NHS 111 is a free round-the-clock phone service offering expert advice for situations when non-emergency urgent advice is needed.

For more self-care tips this winter and guidance on how to choose the right care, view “Your Health Services in Ealing” Booklet click here.

Seven day GP access for Ealing patients

Ealing residents are now able to access GP services 7 days a week, thanks to a new service launched by NHS Ealing Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). People who feel unwell on Saturdays and Sundays should call NHS 111 for medical help and advice. If the trained 111 adviser thinks they need to see a GP, they will be directed to the nearest open practice. The GP weekend opening service is an alternative to A&E for people with non-life threatening illnesses or injuries. For more info call Tamara Sperling 020 3350 4132 or email Tamara.sperling@nw.london.nhs.uk.

Capital Clean Up Grants

Just to let you know that applications are now open for Capital Clean-up grants and free clean-up kits for 2015.

Grants of £500-£1500 are available for community groups, charities, small businesses, schools etc. These are mainly for materials and equipment to help spruce up neglected spaces. Capital Clean-up activities this year will run from 15 May-14 September 2015. These grants can be used to further support your Pocket Parks, as long as you can demonstrate that you meet the criteria – see the above link for more info.

There is no such thing as a typical Capital Clean-up! Past projects have included creating a garden in a neglected walkway, picking litter out of the Regent’s Canal, painting murals and building raised beds. Take a look at the case studies for more ideas.

So do encourage groups to apply. Deadline is 16 March 2015.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch.

Greenford Community Market Event – 6th December 2014

Greenford, Northolt and Perivale Community Federation held a small Christmas Fair market event on Saturday 6th December. There was a local person selling jewellery, a treasure hunt stall, Santa’s Grotto, ‘Time for Change’ healthy eating stall, free diabetes health check vehicle and ‘Rolling Base’ children’s fun activity bus. We also took the opportunity to carry out face to face surveys with shoppers and local businesses and overall the response was very positive with over 116 surveys completed. Most respondents were very keen for a community market and in definite favour for clothes and fashion, arts and crafts and food. Most people (traders and residents) saw the benefits of the market bringing more people into the community, increasing the shoppers and shopping and generally being a fun activity and event for the family. The focus on community groups and themes will make the market more of an event, generate excitement for each market and attract traders and customers to Greenford Town Centre.
