JOB OPPORTUNITY! Community Champions Co-ordinator

This is a great opportunity for a person with experience of working with volunteers in the community and for someone who likes to take on a challenge and is able to work with a number of different partners. This project is part of a local Strategic Partnership Initiative focussing on the Northolt area (Northolt Mandeville and Northolt West End Wards). The aim for the Multi-disciplinary team developed through the Local Authority and its various statutory partners.

Greenford Northolt Perivale Community Federation CIC aims to:

  • increase awareness of VCS (Voluntary and Community Sector) groups in the area;
  • increase and improve cross-sector partnership.
  • promote good practice;
  • increase opportunities for volunteering;
  • enable residents to have a collective voice on local issues by representing the views of organisations and residents strategically at decision-making levels;
  • promote events, services and activities

The Voluntary Sector- from individual residents helping their neighbours to the more established charities in the area- are an important part of the sustainability of this project. These groups will be able to enable the project partners to reach local people, but will be able to share local knowledge, identify potential volunteers and extend the support in the community beyond the life of the first year investment. GNP Community Forum will deliver capacity building for these groups and volunteers that will act as a bridge between the local residents and the statutory services.

Community Champions Project
Community Champions are people in our local neighbourhoods who are actively supporting their neighbours or volunteering in the community informally. They may or may not be supported by a local organisation or faith group but ultimately a community champion has local knowledge and cares about local people. This project will work to identify these people and seek to engage them in this initiative, supporting them with training and supervision and acknowledging their invaluable input. A co-ordinator will sit within the multi-disciplinary team and work towards the shared goals but primarily the aim of this project is to build the capacity of the community in order to sustain the outcomes of Northolt Initiative. This model has been utilised in other areas and Community Champion volunteers have gone on to paid work in the Social Care, Education, Welfare and Community Sectors.
